Travel Advice For Those Wishing To Use A Hire Car

Car hire can be confusing for some; it can be a complex procedure of choices and paper work that can leave you tired before you even leave for your onward journey. Here a few hints however that will help those who have never used a hire car to get the best from their experience.

Firstly it is important to book in advance. As with many elements of travel, booking your hire car early can pay dividends. Some companies will in fact increase their rates if demand is great, so by booking at least a week in advance you should be able to secure the price you will be paying. Also by booking in advance over a longer period it is possible with many car hire companies to receive considerable discounts on rates. It must be remembered that the company’s cancellation policy should be studied in detail to see if any fines will be applicable.

When choosing a car hire company there are certain factors that you should base your decision on. Firstly of course should be rates, then vehicle availability and finally services. While it may be tempting to take the cheapest option it may be the case that services and availability suffer.

Regular travellers may want to look into frequent customer benefits while the occasional traveller will be more interested in the types of car that are available. Remember that if you are after a specific model you will have to book well in advance and perhaps call many car hire companies to ensure that model is available for reservation.

Service, as with many things in life should be of primary concern. If you have used a car hire company previously and liked the service or if you have a personal recommendation it is usually worth using this company again; selecting a company will however take some consideration. Research the efficiency and effectiveness of a company on travel websites to find a company that has a good track record; as stated previously, while a cheaper company may offer fantastic rates, service is something that is harder to quantify.

Whilst at the desk you will be bombarded with a variety of extra insurance policies for your hire package. This smorgasbord of options can be befuddling and while the benefits for some of these policies might be evident, the price does not always relate to value. A general rule of thumb is that if you are renting on business or for a short period these extra policies will probably be worthwhile, however if you are renting for a longer period of time it may prove to be an expense that is not viable.

Remember that when booking it is important to include all of the drivers that may be in control of the vehicle in the hire contract. By letting someone drive the car without them being included on the contract can void any protection you may have had. It may cost a little extra, but this sum will seem trivial if anything serious does occur.

Before you head out on your journey it is essential to inspect the hire car carefully and ensure that any damage is reported to the representative immediately. Charges for any damage above average wear and tear can be costly, so by doing this you cover yourself from any claims that the representative may have when you return the car. If the car does happen to break down, check you hire contract as many companies have their own free towing service.

By following this advice you car hire experience should go smoothly. While you cannot help accidents and breakdowns, you can plan for them, so look in detail at the insurance and policy extras. By finding a company with a good reputation any problems should be settled quickly and easily and you journey should be stress free, apart from the traffic of course.

  • Not sure if anyone else ie female has this issue but I am trying to find different ways to get this resolved and I cant, I am almost giving up!

My partner is 44 this year, I am 35. We live in his house, which he is trying to get in his name after almost 3 years when his ex left and he is paying off debts now to get this done, many arrears in his name and credit cards but with his bonus in April things are working out ok and will be paid off.

Since living with him its been a struggle because he wont get married until all his debts are cleared (his comment) and we are engaged and I would like to settle down as he knows and to have children which he wants as well. I am off the pill as we speak, to see how things go.

We both work full time, he travels with work daily, 2/3 hours in the car, he is in sales, I work from home, on TV, abroad and also own my own property which I rent out monthly. So things for myself are good workwise and for him also. I like to keep everything organised and try not to slip behind with things, I make sure his house is tidy, clean, washing done etc, but sometimes when I work 24/7 as well, I like to think we are sharing the responsibilities as we both work full time and this isnt my house but he always says treat it like its yours, which is fine. He comes in from the gym most night, 4/5 times a week dumps his things in the kitchen and puts those straight in the washing, which frustrates me as there are other things which need to go in as well, so ask him to put those upstairs. He says I only need to ask him once, I have done, never changes, then months later ask again…nothing changes!

So I ask him, (nicely) can you please, now and again help me with the washing, dishes, cleaning…he suddenly goes “I ALWAYS DO, I WILL DO IT THIS WEEKEND, I DO THE HOOVERING, BIN OUT ETC” now yes that is true when asked, but lately I feel bad as its only when I ask him too, and then we fall out, and he gets defensive, starts winding me up, makes me worse, then we dont speak for a day. I feel pathetic, weak and defenseless.

We use to have sex 3/4 times a week now lately I dont feel the passion and admitted this and he said “WELL NOW AFTER THIS ARGUEMENT WE WONT GET IT AT ALL NOW!”

He asks me not to do something I wont do it, then when I say, look you tell me to do something, I do it, he said “I AM ONLY JOKING?” of course this confuses me, so why say it?

He calls me weird, saying you will do this, you will do that, now its making me feel like a nag when I just want help as we dont have one unit we share everything together, and feel like we are 2 people renting not 2 people living together as he admits we dont eat together at night, nor do we have breakfast together in morning and in the evenings its gym for him and 2 nights a week I work til 12am. Most weekends we are together however, but I just wish we would do more, its more watching football, gym and routine at home, seriously I am bored and have mentioned lets do this, lets do that……!!

This morning, he cleans, he takes the bins out, does some washing and feeds the cat (Never does this when he gets up) and then shouts “DONE THE WASHING, FED THE CAT, DONE THE DISHES, HOUSE IS CLEAN” literally…!! so this happens and I feel guilty. (because I asked for help last night)

But I dont ask for praise when I do it, I just do it but he never notices when his bathroom is clean, or the dishes are done or the lounge is tidy? I know we are women and yes some men will say its our job lol but we discussed last night as he puts it “YOU ARE THE NEW WOMAN AND I AM THE TRADITIONAL MAN” so I think if this is the case, it wont ever work?

So now we arent talking, its got yet again to that stage. He always goes to bed at the same time 11pm and I feel I have to go as well at that time, because he gets up at 6.45am so its pressure to have sex, seriously I cant just get into it. Everything is routine. I try and be more exciting when I try he is either too tired or at work or just not into it. When he tries lately its not happening for me either.
So I have now given up….not like me at all but I have.

I sense we are drifting apart but the one thing is to communicate, I am trying but I get someone here who doesnt like to be told, does his own thing lives like a bachelor but is kind to me, then reverts back to his ways. I have said about doing something nice this weekend, he said, well its hard because rugby is on, so decided I will go away myself otherwise resentment sets in. He has booked us away on holiday in April my birthday present, to see his parents in Spain which is nice and a holiday at least!

Any suggestions, different way of talking? I admit to him that I am scared to bring anythnig up because I get this feeling he will over talk me or win the case, its true I cant talk to him, and then I literally end up with this feeling of hate for him, anger and want to walk out or leave him, yes its that bad!! :(

    please help in de

Welfare in Australia is treated worse than a Lepidus colony in Philippines! Bill Shorton is a cruel horrible mean spirited man? He should be forced to find somewhere to rent be given a bad CC with no funds to get a professional writer to upgrade it and $234 per week to pay his mortgage council rates medicine now its not covered by centrelink and travel assistance unable to get a lift from too many wealthy Holden’s and fords whizzing bye they dont know a 6pm curfue for bus users?

Its totally insane to live in town carers get no retraining despite my knowledge being above average noone would touch a 46 year old I now have heart disease from being starved 4 days? Bill Shorton must be either psychotically psychophobically insane or dellusional how can anyone buy food pay rent so little?

I strongly recommend a rush on all nursing home’s? You as a carer become more unemployable the government will not respect you for caring 3.5 years for an elderly relative I’m now faced with taking out an apprehended violence order against my mother’s lawyer? Sell sell the family home? Uninforcable laws created bipartisan to protect the family home criminals stepping on them to feed a gap back in negotiated out has damaged the anxiety of his client? The office of protective commission is run more like a protection racket charging their annual fee monthly?

Seriously! Do not provide for your retirement!!! Corrupt staff at centrelink will lie saying your family home is an asset to be sold the crime gangs running aged care nursing homes will pumble the stomach inflicting not just pain a twisted bowel a hernia lawyers refuse to sue loosing medical certificates there’s absolutely no point being a carer? They get rewarded from preventing ill healing because there’s no incentive? No incentive for a carers caree to heal?

Specifically as an absolute the Gillard junta has released a spiteful vengeful attack on carers they cannot get remployed there are no incentives to well being on having action to prevent the looting of the family home as an asset and no prevention to stop office of protective commission using hired guns to the criminal gang as a federal department stalking folks on absolute lies? I’ve saved mother’s life 9 times from thugs bullies crook’s slept in a park one night to escourt her to medical care slept 4 nights in a 22 year old ford falcon 250 miles from home to see her wishes respected saved her from bankruptcy by having a car bought to emergency evacuated her put on a debt created by a lawyers bad advice?
I’ve stood by mom with wrongful diagnosis despite a CT scan showing no dementia? I’ve watched my own family implicated into nursing home fraud at a nursing home run by crook’s I’ve watched two public servants like me wanting to give evidence on fake Medicare cards fake centrelink payments organized by centrelink officials?

Where is any justice what so ever other than bill shorten appears to be a career criminal propping up only the wealthy and its no different. Under LNP!

HOW CAN ANYONE ON DOLE PENSION OR CARER AFFORD SOLAR PANELS OR FORD OR HOLDEN NEW???

AT ONE POINT TWO BILLION A YEAR FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS KEEP YOUR JOB ITS TOO DANGEROUS CARING!!!

  • I work as a software engineer for a company and I have some ideas I would love to see them work.
I just have no idea about the laws concerning the payments. I mean (if things go well) I’ll get paid for my services but don’t i have to pay taxes for these? Shouldn’t shown as income? Do I have to create a company?
If you need anything more to help please feel free to ask me.
    Any help is very appreciated

I moved my family back from Japan to the U.S. this past March due to the radiation in Japan especially so that my 3 children would be safe.
I needed to leave my 4 cats behind, two of which are 17 years old (females) but healthy (one has lost a bit of weight over the 4.5 months that I was away – from 3.5 kg to 2.3kg). The other 2 (males) are 5 years old and healthy. Our cleaning lady in Japan came twice a week to care for the cats while away. I just returned to Japan for my cats.

In addition to my inability to part with my cats, bringing all four of them back home to Massachusetts with me is their only option; there is no one here who would be able to care for them even if that were my wish. It will take around 30 hours door-to-door from here in Yokohama Japan to our home in Massachusetts.

I and my vet in Japan are particularly concerned about one of my 17-year olds (not the one who lost the weight mentioned above) who breaths extremely rapidly and pants when stressed. My vet is concerned about her panic situation resulting in decreased oxygen flow to her brain during take-off and/or landing.

To minimize the risks, I have scheduled a direct flight at the end of September from Tokyo to NY (12 hrs in flight) via ANA Airlines and my wife will pick us up at JFK and we’ll return to Massachusetts by car (~4 hr ride). My vet suggested that she have emergency oxygen ready. ANA only allows pets to travel as cargo but their cargo for animals is separate from baggage, is pressurized and temperature-controlled.

My alternative is for my wife and children (4 yr old, 2 yr old, 6 mo old) to come to Japan and then fly back to the U.S. in which we would fly United Airlines or Continental Airlines and be allowed to take 3 of our cats in the cabin with us and one in cargo. In this case cargo may not be as well controlled as on ANA airlines and we would need to consider doing 1 plane change to arrive into Boston given that we would all be traveling together and tired. (Actually, they might need to come to Japan in October anyway though that necessity may end up being later in the year.)

I ordered 3 bottles of Bach’s Rescue Remedy for Pets (natural stress reducer via flower extracts) to at least give them during this month prior to departure and in the case that 3 of the cats are with us on the plane, then on the plane as well.

I would be very appreciative of thoughts on the lowest risk approach and your thoughts on how dangerous in general panting due to stress would be on reduced oxygen and I guess dehydration. I really really love my cats and want to do my best to minimize the risks.

    Thank you,
    Jeff

I have left my Husband because of infidelity issues on his part. We have only been married for a little over a year and I’ve returned to my home country of Australia.

There is so much more to this story, but to shorten it somewhat, I found out he had cheated on his first Wife for over 25 years different women and he told me he never loved her. I just felt I should get out now before he walks out on me as he did on her, before he met me.

Being in USA was very lonely for me, he gave up nothing while I walked away from my family, job, career, financial security as I had transferred my life savings of over $100.000 to him for us to make a new life together. He works for IBM and has IBM stocks as assets, but I never saw any evidence that my name was even on them or his 401k.

I started to think ahead and wondered if anything were to happen to him, even with a will, his first Wife could come along and take everything maybe and I felt in a very vulnerable situation.

I had no job, no friends, no money of my own, no car and everyday was much the same as the next, just sitting in the house wondering if I had made a good choice in life. Without a job it’s hard to make friends.

Im a Nurse and yet still found it hard to get work. One day we were walking past Smithfields bbq who were hiring and he told me to get a job there as I wasn’t contributing to the family budget. He said my pay should help pay his $2000 per month alimony as he was finding it hard.

He claimed his tax while I was with him and got a $10.000 refund cheque which he deposited in his account. However, I bought a dress for a wedding we had been invited to and he made me return it saying how dare I waste his money. Needless to say I never went to the wedding and returned home to Australia.

He went online dating other women and they have found out the game he plays and reported him online on this cheater sites. His church got to hear about it and told him to take his profiles down on the dating and sex sites, which he has done, but now he wants me back saying he’s realised just how much he loves me now.

He is writing me such loving heartfelt emails and text messages that im wondering, do I give my marriage another try. When we were together I already caught him searching Craigslist for a women in our area, and in other states too, so im thinking he had plans to travel for a quick one. He says he would never have acted on anything, but he was a serial cheater for years.

I would welcome some advice as I am on the very of making a big mistake I think if I go back. My head tells me to stay in Australa, my heart still loves and wants to be with him.

I wish I could say I was 16, but I am in my 50s and feel so foolish with the choices iv made in life.

I`m not that well versed in french – but am learning.

I am planning a trip for 2 to Paris, and wish to include a trip to Disney.
What is the best connection by either train, bus or subway ? And, would it be best to arrive by train (at Gare Paris Nord) or by plane (Charles de Gaulle airport)?

I think by car would be easiest – although then i`d need to rent one – and that is more expensive than flying.
If you have a link to a website – in English or Dutch would be easiest.
So far, i can explain i`m from Holland, and my French is limited – and if they speak English (Dutch is too much to hope for – anywhere)

I’ve wanted to become a teacher for quite a while. I was in a program in high school where I got to help teach middle schoolers everyday and I loved interacting with the kids and seeing the looks on their faces when they got something. I want to teach high school science or history. I’m currently getting my degree in biology, minoring in history, and getting an endorsement in integrated science so I’ll be able to teach all science classes.
    Now here’s my problem…
While I really want to be a teacher, I’m really worried about not being able to find a job when I graduate. That is a huge problem in my opinion. I’m also not a fan of many aspects of No Child Left Behind as I feel it hinders teachers. And lastly, I’m more of a quiet person. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to control a class or kids little remarks would bother me too much.

So, question is, should I become a teacher?

  • Ok. you graduated from H.School about a year ago. About the same time you were hired (got a job), lost the job recently. Owe over $ 1000.00 in credit.. (around $ 1400.00) still getting higher. Owe $ 300.00 on a phone. You hate your life right now & have a large family. They never help. You can’t goto them.No food most of the time. Little sister always making fun of you because your still living with your family (she is to), have no car, (no job), no life…and your at age 20. Father is truly annoying and doubts your life will ever go anywhere at all. Doubts you’ll even goto college. Mother never went to college. At the moment youv’e got nothing to live for (guess). Are sad, depressed, stressed, angry. No friends basically. Nothing. Nothing but as far as ‘what you see is what you get’. (hellish pain basically) However there is a possibility to change all of that. You hear about the U.S. Military. To me it seems like heaven. But the only thing that is stop you from going is death. should u join?will u die?

I’m 17 and feel bad that I am so spoiled. I am just attracted to expensive things and cannot control myself from buying things. I have a Platinum Amex with no spending limit and a visa card– I roughly spend $1200/month. I only buy clothes though. parents pay all the bills, food, etc. for my
first car I got a Mercedes. I go to boarding school. have a live-in nanny (not anymore), only child, 2 maids.. mom doesn’t work and dad doesn’t really either. we travel a lot and own multiple houses.. my house I’m in right now is around $3million. I have trouble relating to people because I wear expensive clothes..I like the look not the brand and don’t really know what to talk about. I don’t know how to cook or do anything really… my parents don’t care about my grades because they figure I’m set for life with my trust-fund. however, I don’t want to be like that..I wish my parents were more pushy about grades, etc. instead they just hire me a bunch of tutors.. I make good grades though- A’s, but my parents don’t really care. It makes me sad, why can’t my parents be more motivating? why are they like this–my other friends parents are just the opposite..? advice?

I’m taking a trip to Germany this late July or early August. I have a place to stay so while I’m in Heidelberg I won’t need to pay for any hotel fees. The girl I’m staying with said we could eat most meals at her house, so I would be eating out maybe once every other day or something.
We are planning to go from Heidelberg to Berlin and Munich for little day trips.

Also we’ll be taking a 3 day trip into France, most likely via train from Frankfurt to Paris. But we will only stay in Paris for one night, then we will venture outside into France.

So basically 10 days in Germany, but only the hotel cost for maybe 4 of those days, some food, and very little souvenirs.

Thanks to anyone who can help! I know this is probably a little bit of a confusing post since there are so many different aspects of this trip!

  • We currently live in MD and my husband was recently offered a 12m job position in FL with a large income increase. When the time is up, he would either remain in FL, be transferred to another office or return in MD.
We’re having a hard time deciding whether to move the whole family to FL or if he should fly home 2-3 weekends a month. Our children are young (6, 6, 15ms & 3wks) so we’re debating if it would be better for the kids and myself to remain in a familiar place near some family or four the six of us to be together and deal with the uprooting. The company would pay for our home while under the contract or for 4 flights a month back and forth.
Just wanted to see what others would do who are not related or involved in the situation would do or what their advice would be.
    Thanks

  • Hi,

I stay in India and wish to travel to Switzerland in the month of August for around 15 days. We are a couple with a small 11 month old kid.

    - Should we opt for a packaged group tour or make the trip on our own? Some people said to be on our own as group tour would be very hectic and the baby would find it very difficult to adjust those timings.

Having said that, does anyone have any suggestions for a great itinerary?
    - Should we stay in hotels or in apartment?
    - Should we hire a rental car or use public transport?
    - Is the country safe?
    - If you compare Switzerland with New Zealand, which one would you prefer?
    - Since I have no idea about the tariff range, what sort of a range should I opt for? I prefer staying luxury.

    Please provide me some tips.

  • I work for a risk mgmt company. Here everyday I interact with many companies for Partnership purposes. Here i have a client who has offered me a job. Im working in India and my client is in Clover, USA.
They are beginning to roll out a program involving international BD representatives. These BD professionals will be responsible for market development in their respective markets, calling on Life Science (and other) companies who wish to improve their business in the USA. They offer a variety of services for foreign companies, beginning with simple Americanization of their web sites and marketing materials, to consulting, coaching, trade show assistance, administrative help, appointment setting, and full-service sales and marketing programs.Currently they represent 3 CROs in India; Vimta Labs, AXIS Clinicals, and Clinigene (a division of Biocon). They feel many Indian companies need serious help when it comes to getting more business from the USA.

They said: – “If you are interested in this position, please let me know, and provide me some framework of your compensation requirements. You must be able to work from home or have your own office, we will not be providing office rental, but we will compensate for travel (when required) and communication expenses.”

I have not worked for this kind of an environment. I would like some help from you who have experience in this field. Id like live examples and understanding. This seems like a good offer to me as Ive been in the corporate business for the last 8yrs. Thank y’all for your help.

  • Specifically, I have no idea how to manage all of us and all of our stuff when I arrive in the long term airport parking garage. Given the heightened security, I highly doubt that I’ll be able to drop off my suitcase and dog crate while I go park the car; nor will I be able to physically curbside check my bag and carseat and then return to the car to get the crate and dog. I called the airlines, and their advice was to walk the dog before checking my baggage. What’s the best way to manage, do you think?

i went to roper kia today to see if i could get into a new ride. when i got there they were nice and everything but most salesmen are. so i kinda had an attitude that said show me the numbers and then i will smile and shake your hand. well moving on we found a suv that we liked and i really wanted it after the test drive happens to me every time.ran my credit it was fair asked my income it was poor got all the way to the last step` asking the banks to let me in on this ride.and my answer boiled down to a big fat NO. so i took the walk of shame outta there.now the reason the bank denied me was because they prefered me to be making about 1800 bucks a month.ya i wish. i can`t even get a job right now because no one will hire me i try and try and keep getting turned down.so im officaly stuck on ssi and state income wich togather is only 750 a month. could anyon help me out on what i should do with my ssi and state income i would only need an extra 700 bucks to be in a good finacial staus for the car.and i really need the car because right now im in a 1994 ford f150 standard cab i have a wife and a kid and if i get another kid on my hands i will not have room for my children because my truck seats only three people and it is a peace of junk that some how still runs the heater does not work it has no exzhaust so the fumes are terrible it uses way way way to much gas and it is all in all a unsafe vehicle.so if anyone could help me out on some ideas or a job offer that would get me where i need to be i would thank you and so would my family.if i get a job offer i live in grove oklahoma just so ya know and i cannot travel to far because i do not make enough cash for my fuel costs.

  • My parents have always wanted to see the changing of the leaves. It seems the best time to go is the last week of September & first week of October so I’m about to book.
I would be grafeful for any advise regarding the best places/areas to visit, when to go, where to stay, etc. We’re from the UK so we’ll hire a car but they are over 80 so not too much walking is possible.
Any recommendations, advice, web sites, etc would be most helpful.
    Thanks and regards,
    Charlie

  • I’m looking at possibly purchasing a modular home to place on land I already own. The one I’m looking at is a two story approximately 1850 sq. ft. simple house. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure (just looking for a guess-timate people, not exact) for a moderately equipped modular home? Also, if you feel so inclined, what are the approximate costs for full basement foundation and a two-car standard garage? All serious answers are very much appreciated!

  • Hi I am travelling to Orlando for New Year.
Everywhere I have looked the car hire is so expensive but I have been told it is really cheap.
Can anyone recommend any sites that have good value? Please and thanks :)
There are 6 of us going, and we are looking to hire 2 cars instead of one big one, so we will need a car big enough to hold 3 suitcases each

  • Just after a bit of advice as I & a friend are wishing to visit the US next year & spend a month there seeing as much as possible in a relatively cheap way! By cheap I don’t mean hiking or stayin in hostels.
We thought of going on a tour but the price & rush of it all seemed wasteful. Weve thought about hiring a UV thinking this might be a better way to really see & feel the US for a month. Is this an expensive option or a worth while option? We were thinking atleast its our means of travel & our accommodation. Would love some feedback.. Thanx
Oops spelling mistake… i meant an RV.
Plan is to fly into LA or NY.. staying with relative in Connecticut for a few days. Planning to see NY, Florida, Vegas, LA, Cali, San Fran, Washington DC but would love to experience more!!! Where else should we go?

  • and the start of september. We are undecided of a route to take. We’re thinking more along the coast of france keeping away from Paris. The heading across the boarder towards the east cost of Spain to end up in Barcelona. The main quetions that I have is… do you think it would work out cheaper purchasing a 12 seater Van rather than a couple of cars (as then all of us would be chipping in with the money for fuel and rental and Insurance, Toll Charges) instead of going down in convoy?
Plus also the cost of fuel by the time we arrive to our destination and then back to the UK. If there is anything else that would be worth knowing about i would be much greatful…. Oh before I forget… cash wise (incase of being pulled over for “on the spot fines”) not that we are intending to get done on purpose…. how much would you safely take to pay them out.

The rest of regulations i’ve read about e.g. two hazard triangles, GB stick (none EU Reg) so on and so forth.

  • Hi guys!

I just turned 23 and its killing me how fast time has past, anyways I have had this idea for this film project I’ve been wanting to do for 2 yrs now. I pictured myself 2 yrs ago successfuly accomplishing this idea. Guess things don’t always go as planned unfortunately. I need to buy the film equipment been looking at a particular camera for a while…I need a laptop, and desktop for better quality advancement etc
and also music instruments, and editing equipment like protools, I’m an aspiring musician and singer, so I want to make my own music and I need money for traveling expenses like rent money, gas money as well. I need to also hire someone as cheap as I can to film this for me perfectly. i need the wardrobe and i want to also create my own production business with an Llc. To keep my production from getting sued. Even if it does not come out as I suspected it well still be relatively cheap and my equipment stays with me forever! And of course my production name. So I need $10-15,000 really $15,000 In 2-4 mo. but trust me I realize the staggering amount in such little time. I refuse to of course do any prostitution or anything that compromises my morals, otherwise advice is sooo greatly appreciated! I have been thinking of getting/finding a sponsor, not sure how easy that is. Lemonade stand which I feel a lil to old for. car washing, get donations which idk how to start asking for donations for my project. SO I’m turning to you guys the public and hope to find some brilliant ideas…I have an open window of 2-4 mo so look forward to your help anf suggestions. THANK YOU!!!

Feel free to also email me if you wish…

  • My son is getting married for the third time and is angry that I will not attend the wedding. I take care of my 84 year old mother who cannot travel and there is no family around to help me. I do not have the money to hire anyone for a couple of days plus it will cost me almost a thousand dollars to get to the wedding with air, car rental, hotel, etc.
My son told me that if I do not attend this big, lavish wedding that he no longer wants me in his life and he will never speak to me again.
This is so unfair isn’t it??? His fiancee also wrote me an email and was rude, disrespectful and threatening to me.
I feel bad for not being there but financially cannot afford it. I do not want to put my mother in a home for 3 days as she has dimentia and is confused already and I made a committment to her 2 years ago to take care of her.
Does anyone out there have any advice for how to tell my son I cannot come without him disowning me ? thanks, mary

I am going to France soon and I want to hire a car at Nice airport but I do not have a credit card, nor do I want one. I have a debit card but all the car hire companies say that they will not accept a debit card and you must have a credit card. Does anyone know of a way out of this problem?

  • We’re supposedly off to Bruges in less than a week but the car we were going in has had a bit of an accident and we need a new one. Most car hire companies don’t let you, but are there any which do?

  • For my 18th and for my boyfriend’s 21st we want to go on a cheap holiday together. Parents are paying as a present but obviously I don’t want it to be too expensive for them. Does anyone have any ideas on where’s best to go or any stories of holidays you’ve been on that didn’t cost much?
Countries I’d most like to go to: Greece, Turkey, India, Africa, Southern Italy. Any other ideas please contribute :)

Also, I wouldn’t mind going to a cheap horrid tourist site, if it was a short distance from somewhere really nice to visit…..e.g. I went to Salou (not very nice place) and every day travelled to Barcelona and Tarragona which were beautiful
    what is that link?

I just need advice from mature adults that know a thing or two more than i do.

Here is my situation. Before I got married about 2 years ago, I was a medical assistant in the biggest city around. I lived in a humble studio apartment by myself and made ok money which I used to pay rent, a car note, utilities, gas and groceries. I had dates with terrible men. I finally met a nice one from the country (an hour and a half away) and married him. At 1st we lived near the city where I worked. Closer to the city, rent was higher. So I sought jobs closer to his where we could afford to live more comfortably. For my mistake I accepted a temp job in the smaller town. They have sent me to only factories. It has been hard labor and long hours… I felt at times I couldn’t handle it being that I’ve never been a fast or physically strong person). I also had been looking for other jobs, but with the long hours I found very little time to search and when I did, I found absolutely no opportunity. Now i have been without work for over a month. We are so broke and I’m desperate. I had 2 interviews. One at a place that decided they didn’t want to go with me for whatever reason. The other place was Walmart and they wanted to hire me but I didn’t accept because I am collected more in unemployment than they were willing to pay me. With no gas, and a car that desperately needs new brake pads and an oil change, I have finally resorted to calling every single place to ask if they are hiring like a teenager instead of going up there in person to drop off my resume. Only one said they need a receptionist at a doctors office, so I will be bringing my resume up there Monday.

This is not my only problem… Lord I wish it was. We moved closer to my inlaws, about 15 minutes up the road, and a lot farther from my family. My mother in law is always hateful to me, making snide comments. She tells my husband it’s my fault we are In this financial state. Their house is so filthy. I hate to judge but they should be on hoarders. I’ll get to the point. I’m 28 years old and haven’t had children yet; in have PCOS so I’m facing the fact that I may never. But I’d like to whenever we get out of this mess, as I think most women always want to. However my husband is completely against the idea of daycare-which bringing a city girl seems perfectly normal to me-and he wants our future child to spend hus or her days with his mother. It seems like a horrible idea to me, for obvious reasons.

Also in the fact that I’m 28 years old, I have no college education. Ten years ago, I had no clue what kind of careers were out there. I saw an ad on tv, and became a medical assistant. Now I’d really love to go to college but I have an outstanding student loan.

I wish that by now, we would be paying a mortgage instead of rent. Or by now many other things would have taken place in my life. What am I going to do?? Any advice at all….

Sorry this is long, and sorry it’s a bunch of depressing BS but I don’t really share my personal life with “friends” anymore, as I’ve been burned by the one I thought was my best as well.

I live in Kern County California and would like to seek advice as to whether I should ask the questions I want to and will they help me to prove my innocence. I was “caught” speeding by a patrol car that had 2 officers, the one that gave me the ticket stated that he did not know exactly how fast I was going (I myself was not sure either but I want to argue so that I can be left off). I need some legal council and but since I’m a student I don’t have much cash, that’s also why I don’t want to pay a ticket that I probably didn’t commit in which the officer was not sure of my speed.
Thanks for the heads up, I am trying to prepare my case as best as possible. I mentioned 2 officers but they both happened to be on the same car so I think it might be a little more difficult to prove… I sincerely believe the cop stopped me based on the sound my intake makes when pushed a little more than idle and has absolutely no proof (by the way, how can I make it so that his word is not valid, as he himself told me he didn’t know what speed I was going…)

  • Hi, we’re travelling to Florida in april an would just like to know whether it would be worth purchasing a toll pass from our car hire company on arrival? I am planning to take around a months vacation in Australia and wish to drive from Sydney to Cairns, enter NT, drive down to Alice Springs, touch Coober Pedy and back to Sydney. Can someone please help me with the following questions.
    1) Is it possible to do this drive in 20 days ? There will be two drivers and we are open to drive in sifts for long hours.
    2) Can someone suggest a good route for this drive considering the time limits i mentioned above. We want to see the great outback, meet the people from small old towns, drink beer and yes, want to do fishing along the way. There…please tell us a good route. Please not that we just dont want to stick to the main highways or roads. We really want to see the dusty roads of outback. I understand we need to hire a four wheel drive for this.
    3) Finally, how much do you think we ll have to spend on the fuel. Considering we hire a manual four wheel drive.
    Thank you.

Okay, I’ve had some really nasty people comment on my latest postings, saying hiring a visa helping agency meant I was some retarded monkey who couldn’t do it herself. Please refrain from commenting if you’re going to be an @!$….

I came to the UK to marry my british husband on a fiancee visa, then applied for a spousal visa several months later, after marrying.

Now we wish to move back out to america with my family.

I have been told my multiple laywers, agencies, government workers that he may accompany me back to the states as a visitor, and once there for 30 days he can apply for a green card. We have all the forms and homeland security charges for it all. Has anyone else done it this way?

    Thank you!

    P.S.
People who have commented on my post before, please refrain from commenting here. I don’t want smart ass answers.
Our case does not apply to a CR1/IR1, K3, or I-130 alone. It is a complicated case. He has never been denied entry.
    It’s called Adjusment of Status???
What about a K3 Visa, then? Is it better to do it that way?

  • I am trying to book a hire car for collection on the French side of Geneva airport in July. I have had reasonable quotes from Car Hire 3000, Europcar and Atlas Choice Car Hire. However when I look at reviews of these companies, they are all on the poor to average side. It seems this is mainly to do with handing over credit card details and finding subsequent unagreed deductions, followed by problems in contacting them to discuss the payments. Would you recommend any of these companies? Have you had any bad experieces with them? Any tips?

  • Can anyone recommend a good car hire company for arrival Brisbane? Have had bad service from car hire places in the past and would love to find one that comes recommended or if somebody has a contact?

  • Hello All,

I am going to the states (Florida) in a few weeks and have arranged a hire car through Dollar. I have just found out that the rate I have been quoted does not include insurance. Can anyone tell me how the car insurance system works over there? With UK car hire it is included as it’s compulsory to be insured, is this the case in the states or are the rules different? Do I need to arrange for a 3rd party to insure me/the car while on holiday?

  • Hi

We are going to Menorca for a weeks holiday in May. Does anyone know of a car rental company that doesn’t charge you extra for a hiring a car seat. I get to the end of an application to hire a car then the company wants to add another £30 for the hire of a car seat. I am sure I found a site that didn’t charge for the car seat but I got side tracked before booking and now I can’t find the companies website. Please help!!!!

has anyone any experience of hiring car with visa debit from coop in ireland

  • I’m 21 and this summer I would like to hire a car to carry myself, 5 friends and luggage. A standard people carrier (ie. a Zafira) won’t be big enough to carry us with luggage. However, I can’t find any clear rules about anything larger. I know you need to pass a test for the minibus license, but I have seen that you can drive up to 9-seater vehicles without another test. Can anyone help me out?
Extra info, by the time of hiring I will have been driving 4 years without any incidents, as there might be some age restrictions… I honestly don’t have a clue, the DirectGov website confused me more than helped me.
    Thanks!

I just want to know what exactly does each of the following terms mean: 1.car pool, 2.car rental, and 3.car hire. And what the difference between them,

    Thank you
By the way, I’d love to add that carpool is a paid service. It is not a free service.

you can have a look at this email sent by a transportation company to a served University community, and it is as follows:

    Dear *** Community,

Effective September 1st 2012, a new carpool services’ fees structure, new policies and procedures will be implemented. For more details, kindly preview the attached document.

    Best Regards,

    *** Transport,

P.S: I have replaced the name of the University with asterisks in order to keep myself in the safe side.

    Thank you and best regards,

Me and a few friends are planning on going on a road trip across Europe. We will all meet in London and then go to various countries around Europe. The trip will last one month. We will all be 21 and all have full driving licences with no points (as far as I’m aware). By full I mean we can all drive legally in the UK.

Do you guys know any good places we could hire a car from?

Also, is there any specific kind of laws we would need to check out if we are foreign drivers in another country or driving a hire car in another country or something?

  • i wish to hire a car for approx 2 months and was wondering if anyone could suggest any place that does this.

Myself and my GF are going to the USA in a month or so from the UK.

we are looking to hire a car to drive from Florida direction to Vegas (from 18th July to the 8th Aug) and have a few questions:

    1. Would we get a better deal booking online and looking for discount codes or waiting until we get there?

    2. what are the best companies?

    3. any hints or tips?

    thanks for any help

  • I have been looking for car hires, but everywhere they say I have to be 21.

I would like to like hire exotic cars like Mercedes SL63 or something like that, but I don’t know if I could do that at the age of 19. (I’m 19)

    Are there any chances?

    Thanks

  • Is it better to book online in the UK or go direct to the car hire when we’re there?

If you book online is the car and colour you get random? (Obviously you choose to a certain extent what car you get)

    Thank you!

I need to hire a car but i dont have any insurance. When you hire a car does it come with insurance or do i have to sort it out seperatly myself?? i only need to hire one for 24 hours, how much will the insurance be or where on the net can i find the info i need?

  • I received a hire car yesterday at work as mine is in for repair (someone went into the back of me), I briefly checked it out and signed for it as in perfect condition. I drove it home from work (4 miles) and left it on the driveway all night. This morning has come and I’ve noticed what looks like a stone dent in the bonnet. Now I don’t think this could’ve happened on the drive home or overnight (the bonnet faces towards the house not the street) so it must’ve been there already but I didn’t see it the first time around. It was driven over 100 miles to me. Will the hire car company screw me on this?? it has a £250 excess on if I cause any damage :(

  • Me and my fiance are going travelling in Africa for our honeymoon next year. We want to self drive through a number of countries including kenya, tanzania, uganda, rwanda, zambia and possibly others like mozambique, burundi, malawi botswana and namibia. We want to visit as many as possible, but the route doesn’t matter too much, ideally we would want to drive one way so as not to go back on ourselves. Now I know that this sounds optimistic, which is why i’m asking for advice!
Does anyone know of any car hire companies that allow a vehicle to be taken into multiple countries? And if not is it easier to buy a car and then re-sell it at the end of our trip? Where would you recommend to buy from?
A friend mentioned that it may be easier to buy a car in the UK and ship it to Kenya, however someone told me that you can’t import a car older than 7 years if you want to sell it.
    All advice is welcome!!
    Cheers!

Is there a car hire company within the UK that I can Hire a car to drive across Europe.

  • We are trying to hire a car for a holiday in UK (we live in UK too). We’ve asked for some quotes but there seems to be so many things you have to look out for like insurance, excess payments, petrol, insurance waiver etc. We are getting very confused by it all. If you hire a car what should we be looking out for? Are these things included in the price or will we have to pay extra for them? Please help!!!

  • Im off to LA next week. I have been wanting to hire a car from E-Z car rental whilst im over. This is the only company that will hire a car to myself, a 19 year old. A friend and I are looking to hire a rental car in the USA for 8-10 days.

We are driving from Las Vegas to New Orleans.

So far the cheapest we can seem to find is approximately $1000 for this period of time.

Due to driving one-way, we are seemingly always slugged with a one-way fee which is $300 upwards. Is this conditional with all rental car companies in the US, or is there a clause that after driving X days the fee is waived?

Can anyone reccommend a cheaper way to have a car to drive for 8-10 days across the US? We are wanting to have the freedom of driving and not considering any public transport aka buses/coaches/trains/etc as an option. We want our own wheels. We will not be able to return the car to it’s original destination either (Las Vegas), our final destination where the car must be left is absolute (New Orleans)

    Suggestions/businesses to look at appreciated.

    Hi Anyone/Everyone,
I am contemplating starting a classic/retro car hire business, and just wanted to gauge some public opinion on a few issues.

    1. What would be your top 5 cars that you would like to drive/hire from the 70’s and 80’s
    2. Do you think there is a market for cars from the 80’s, or should I stick to the classics.
    3. Do you know anyone who I could talk to regarding such a business?

I am aiming the business at the 30/40 somethings, and am based in Leeds,West Yorkshire.

Any feedback would be great, good or bad!

    Thanks for your time.

    Paul

I’ve found a hire company that doesn’t require a full license for a certain period of time.. there just happy that I have one, I know I can ring the company and ask them myself but I feel a bit stupid doing that lol

First of all, do you need to have your full driver’s license to be able to hire a car overseas? I’m Australian and I’m expecting that I’ll have my P2 Driver’s License (green Ps) by about July of 2015.

How much does it cost to hire a car in France? Most likely from Paris.

How far are you allowed to drive with rental cars? Would you be able to use the car as transport to Germany, stay a week in Germany and then drive back?

Is there any cheaper alternate form of transport between France and Germany such as a train or bus?

    Thanks for any info!

  • I’m basically just being lazy because I have 10 minutes left of my lunch break.

But I’m looking to go travelling in America next year and I was wondering what are the regulations/laws for hiring a car?

I’ll be 24 with 1.5 years driving experience since I passed my test.
